Infrared Saunas For Weight Loss

By Shelby S Kittelstead

Making use of an infrared sauna for fat loss specifically is a somewhat debated issue, despite how enormously popular sauna use is within any fitness center. Very few people would debate the mere obvious fact that the majority of the weight loss you will see on a scale is simply fluid loss. However, the sauna does increase the heart rate in an attempt to cool the body down. This, like any kind of physical moment, requires energy input. At least in this really obvious respect, you can be certain that lounging in a hot sauna requires more energy than sitting stationary playing video games.

There's also been a number of studies demonstrating that heat stress improves insulin resistance in rodent models of diabetes. Since a common symptom of diabetes is, in fact, weight gain, this might seem to show another significant mechanism in which using a far infrared sauna could assist in improving an individual's chances of losing weight or at least staying at a relatively healthy level of weight by keeping the insulin levels in check.

Sauna use has also demonstrated in studies on animals to increase the gaining of muscle mass relative to controls when used immediately after weightlifting. The way in which they ran this study was to weight the rodents down and force them to exercise, and then in the control group they had the animals simply returned to their cages, and in the experimental group they placed them in a heated chamber. The rodents that were placed in a heated environment after the workout gained more muscle.

Putting on large amounts of muscle mass can help in keeping your body from putting on too much of that bad kind of weight, because muscles requires a larger intake of energy and therefore boosts the bodies natural metabolism by increasing its energy demand. Shifting your bodies composition to one of more muscle is a wonderful way to ensure that you're able to not just lose weight, but more importantly, to keep it off. This is just one reason why it is a fact that exercise and dieting act together in a more effective way than either do alone.

In summary: It is most likely a superb idea to spend some time in the sauna if you're looking to lose weight, and perhaps it is a genuinely better idea to try to do this immediately after your workout so that you can manage to make the most out of your trip to the fitness center.
