Learn How You Can Stop Snoring

By Jason McDrarren

Do you hear your partner complain each night about your snoring? Perhaps your snoring is so loud that you wake yourself up each night? Many people suffer from snoring. Snoring makes it difficult for anyone in the house to get a good night of rest. Luckily, most of the causes of snoring are a result of our lifestyle choices and most of these can be easily changed. Take a minute to read on and discover why you snore and what you can do about it.

The first thing you need to do is find out why you are snoring. Snoring is caused when the air flow at the back of the throat is restricted. This causes vibrations which can produce, as any snorer knows, extremely loud sounds.

For many people, snoring occurs while sleeping because the muscles in the throat either relax too much or are not strong enough to keep the airway properly opened. If these muscles relax too much then then breathing can be restricted or even stop completely. Some people suffer from sleep apnea, which occurs when breathing stops altogether. These individuals often wake up to loud snoring or snorting sounds as their body begins to breath again. Breathing problems have negative impacts on our health that go beyond a lack of sleep. Snoring can lead to a reduction in usable oxygen in the blood which means our cells don't operate at full capacity.

Much snoring goes unnoticed. This is especially true for those that live alone and don't hear from their roommates about the snoring problem. If you find yourself waking up a lot at night or feeling extremely tired each morning, then you might be someone that snores. Snoring is caused by many different things. Common causes of snoring are: obesity, drinking, smoking, congestion, and swelling in the throat or nasal passage.

If you snore and you are overweight then it is likely your weight that causes snoring. Extra body fat results in thicker skin around the throat area. This often makes it difficult to breath while sleeping and causes a person to snore.

Luckily, this can be remedied by living a healthier lifestyle. Eat better food and take time to exercise a little each day. A drop of just ten pounds is often enough to reduce snoring and produce other health benefits as well.

Other common causes are related to drinking and smoking. Smoking can cause inflammation in the throat and congestion. Alcohol often causes your throat muscles to relax too much, which causes the airway to become restricted. Both problems can be easily solved: stop smoking and don't drink as much, particularly before bed.

The position in which we sleep can also affect snoring. Generally sleeping on your back will increase the chance of snoring, particularly if weight is an issue. Try sleeping on the side or stomach instead.

Enlarged tonsils, particularly in children, can cause snoring. Also colds and respirator infections can cause a person to snore because they block the nasal passage. This can often be solved with a hot bath or humidifier.

Now you know some of the most common causes of snoring. Solving these problems can help you get a good nights sleep. Your family members will appreciate it too.

Although not everyone will be able to solve their snoring problems using the above recommendations, most people will. These home remedies allow most snorers to treat their snoring naturally and without spending any money at all. Now you can finally enjoy the full night's rest that you've always wanted!
